The heads of the natural sciences and mathematics departments at Queen Morta School, Virgita Burneikaitė and Sigita Lagunavičienė, participated in international Erasmus+ training in Madeira, Portugal.
The training theme, “Assessment with Artificial Intelligence: How to Improve Learning Assessment Using Digital Tools,” is particularly relevant to modern education. The teachers delved into how artificial intelligence and digital tools can help more accurately and objectively assess students’ achievements, provide faster and clearer feedback, and reduce teachers’ workload when preparing assessment tasks. The training covered topics such as the application of artificial intelligence in assessment, creating assessment criteria (rubrics), practical work with various digital platforms, and motivating students using AI tools.
Mathematics teachers from various educational levels – from primary schools to universities – from nine European countries participated in the training: Greece, Spain, Romania, Croatia, Bulgaria, Germany, the Netherlands, Estonia, and Lithuania. Learning in an international group provided a valuable opportunity to share best practices, discuss current assessment challenges in the field of science, and exchange experiences.
The teachers also visited Francisco Franco Secondary School, where they familiarized themselves with the school’s education system, learning spaces, specialized learning tracks, and curriculum differentiation tailored to the diverse needs, abilities, and interests of students.
The knowledge and practical insights gained will be applied to improve the assessment methods used at our school. We hope this will contribute to more accurate student achievement assessment, increased motivation, and long-term improvements in learning outcomes.
